Why Does My Lipstick Feel Dry?

You’ve just made your own lipstick… poured it, waited (impatiently) for it to set, popped it into the tube — and then… it feels a bit dry on your lips.

The most common reason is simple: Too much pigment.

When you add more pigment:

  • The lipstick becomes more matte
  • It can feel draggy or less smooth
  • It slightly “absorbs” the oils in your base

This is especially common when you’re going for:

  • Bold colours
  • Deeper shades
  • Full coverage

So if your lipstick looks amazing but feels a bit dry — your pigment ratio is likely the culprit.

Before you panic or think you can’t save it…

What to do:

  1. Gently melt your lipstick again
  2. Add just 1 drop (or 2 drops) of jojoba oil
  3. Mix well
  4. Pour back into your mould or tube. That’s it.

Be careful not to overdo it. Too much oil can:

  • Cause it to break or sweat
  • Make the lipstick too soft
  • Affect how it sets in the mould
